Day Trip to Frisco, CO in the Winter

Frisco, Colorado is one of the most underrated mountain towns in the state. Most travelers simply drive past it on their way to Breckenridge or Keystone—but this charming little town is absolutely worth a day of its own. With stunning mountain views, a walkable Main Street, cozy cafés, and easy-to-access winter adventures, Frisco is the perfect winter getaway.

Whether you’re visiting from Denver, passing through Summit County, or planning a weekend in the mountains, this itinerary will help you spend a perfect winter day in Frisco.

Here’s how to spend a perfect winter day in Frisco.

Stop 1: Rocky Mountain Coffee Roasters

  • Where: 285 Main St, Frisco, CO 80443

  • Parking: Street parking on Main St.

I would highly recommend starting your day at Rocky Mountain Coffee Roasters located on Main St. in Frisco. They are a locally owned, cozy coffee shop that roasts their own beans. They have a diverse menu and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Start your day with a hot cup of joe (or cold if you prefer) and take a stroll down main street and browse the shops while sipping your delicious, caffeinated beverage. I ordered an iced matcha latte that I found particularly good. The views from downtown Frisco truly are breathtaking.

Stop 2: Explore Downtown Frisco, CO

After your coffee, take a little time to wander Main Street. Frisco has that small-town charm mixed with mountain-town energy—boutiques, outdoor gear shops, bookstores, bakeries, and locally crafted goods. If you love supporting small businesses, this is the place to do it.

Winter bonus: Main Street is beautifully decorated during the colder months, and the snowy backdrop makes everything feel picture-perfect.

Stop 3: Sapphire Point Overlook

  • Where: Swan Mountain Rd, Dillon, CO 80435

  • Trail Details: 0.6 mile loop, 36 ft elevation gain

Not every hike I do has to be a 10 mile trek through the wilderness. Sometimes a short, easy hike on a well kept path with amazing views is all I need. Sapphire Point in Frisco checks all those boxes. The trail is a 0.6 mile long loop with exceptional views of the Rocky Mountains while also overlooking the Dillon Reservoir. There is a small parking lot at the top of the mountain and an outhouse near the head of the trail. The overlook is at the beginning of the trail and is a great location for taking some cool photos. If you walk the whole loop, there is a picnic area on the other end with tables and benches, which is the perfect spot for a snack.

Tip: Always check trail and road conditions before heading out on any hike.

Stop 4: Grab Lunch in Downtown Frisco

Here are a few popular lunch options depending on your mood:

  • Ollie’s Pub & Grub – Classic American pub food with great burgers.

  • Silverheels Bar & Grill – A relaxed spot with sandwiches, salads, and mountain comfort food.

  • Bread + Salt – A delicious brunch café if you prefer something cozy and breakfast-forward.

Pick whatever you’re craving and fuel up before an afternoon of some fun in the snow.

Stop 5: Snow Tube at Frisco Adventure Park

If you’re looking to add a little thrill to your day trip, head to the Frisco Adventure Park for snow tubing. This is one of the most popular winter activities in town—and it’s fun for both kids and adults.

The hill is groomed, the lanes are fast, and you don’t have to hike back up thanks to the magic carpet lift. Make sure to book your tubing session in advance, especially on weekends and holidays.

Stop 6: Eat Dinner at Pho Bay II

  • Where: Shopping Center, 270 Summit Pl, Silverthorne, CO 80498

The final stop: Food. So this place is actually in Silverthorne, which is on the way back from Frisco if you live in the Denver metro area. There are a bunch of restaurants to dine at in Frisco, but I would recommend traveling 10 minutes down the road to Pho Bay II. I’ve been here twice after each of my Frisco day trips and each time the service has been very fast and excellent quality. It tastes even better in the winter, since a hot bowl of soup warms you up in seconds and is actually quite filling. Both times I’ve ordered a small bowl with meatballs with a side order of crab rangoon wontons and it’s seriously so good.

Frisco may be small, but it’s truly one of the best winter day-trip destinations in Colorado. Between charming shops, gorgeous viewpoints, and easy outdoor adventures, it’s the ideal place to experience the magic of winter in the Rockies—without the crowds.
