Hiking Guide: Mestaa’ėhehe Mountain Trail + Lookout

I can’t believe I didn’t do this Colorado hike sooner!

This is an awesome hike near Denver with incredible panoramic views and requires minimal effort.

If you’re looking for a relatively easy hike, gradual incline, and a cool fire tower lookout at the end, you have to do this hike.

Fun fact: you can actually sleep overnight in the fire tower if you reserve a spot here.

Location, Parking + Trail Info

The Mestaa’ėhehe Mountain Trail is located just outside of Evergreen, CO and is about an hour drive from Denver.

The trailhead is located off of highway 103, in which you can park on the side of the road or the forest service road where the trail starts.

From the trailhead, you will follow a wide service road (not really a trail) uphill for 2 miles.

Because you’re following a road, the trail isn’t that scenic, but the summit is the real reward.

My Experience + Review

I thought this was the perfect trail to kick off hiking season in the spring.

It was a great way to warm up my hiking legs without pushing myself too hard.

I hiked this trail in early April and the trail was completely snow covered so I had to put on microspikes.

Always look at the trail conditions prior to heading out the door.

Even though the hike up wasn’t particularly special, given that it’s just a wide road, but I thought the views at the top were beautiful.

It’s a great lookout spot to get an epic view of the Rocky Mountains looking west and views of Denver in the east.

This is the perfect trail to take out of town visitors or if you’re looking for a short hike without a lot of driving.

I would definitely do this hike again!
