4 Affordable Skin Care Products You Need If You Live in Colorado
The natural elements in Colorado are NO JOKE. It’s one of the driest climates in the country and the UV is super intense due to high elevation, especially in cities live Denver.
After living in Denver for almost three years, I’ve become proactive in my skin care routine and intentional about protecting myself from the sun.
I wanted to share some things I do and products I CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT.
You don’t need a 10 step skin care routine, just a few good products–and these ones are relatively inexpensive.
Here’s my recommendations to protect your skin from Colorado’s intense sun and dryness.
Skin care:
The easiest, most cost effective way to protect your face and prevent it from aging is to wear SPF. Apply CeaVe moisturizer every morning regardless of whether or not you plan on going outside. Don’t forget to put it on your neck too!
I apply this every time I step out of the shower. The air is so dry here, and you’re going to want a moisturizer that keeps your skin feeling fresh throughout the day. I love this cream because it absorbs quickly and doesn’t leave a greasy feeling on the face.
3. Olay Retinol 24 Night Moisturizer
What I like about this product is that it doesn’t dry out your face like other retinol products I’ve tried. This product will keep your skin hydrated while also reversing signs of aging. My skin always looks amazing the morning after I use this product. Like all retinol products, use minimally and make sure you are also wearing SPF to avoid skin damage.
4. CeraVe Intensive Moisturizing Lotion, Hydro-Urea
Trust me, you’re going to want an intensive body lotion, especially in the winter months. I apply a full body moisturizer at least every other day to prevent my skin from becoming scaly, itchy, and dry. I’ve tried a few different body lotions and this one comes out on top by far. Make sure you’re getting the one that says 5% Hydro-Urea.
Other tips:
Make baseball caps part of your wardrobe
If you live in Colorado, you’re going to want to own a few versatile hats that will go with your outfits. It’s another easy way to protect your face from the intense Colorado sun and prevent aging.
Wear protective layers when you can
It’s tempting to spend all day in the sun wearing shorts and a tank top, but it increases your exposure to UV rays. Add a few lightweight, long sleeve layers you can wear in the summer. For example, I own a shade hoodie that I always wear on sunny hikes, even in the summer. You can also wear a lightweight white button down that will go with most outfits and still look cute.
Apply sunscreen whenever you go outside
If you don’t want to wear protective layers, make sure you are applying sunscreen to any exposed skin. Skin cancer is not cute.
Use tanning lotion instead of tanning naturally
I miss my natural tan glow, since I’ve been prioritizing protecting my skin. A product I’ve found to be really great is this Self Tanner Lotion. It’s long lasting, doesn’t streak, and makes me look like I have a natural tan that isn’t orange.
If you live in Colorado, make sure you get your hands on these essential products and include essential wardrobe pieces that protect your skin.
